Polymers are powerful on their own, and adding other elements creates a whole new suite of innovative materials. Our researchers are developing new polymer combinations and adding nanoparticles to the mix to create composites that are greater than the sum of their parts—using carbon nanotubes to develop lightweight but strong materials for state-of-the-art vehicles and smarter manufacturing, creating advanced coatings that can respond to light and ambient temperature, and incorporating biomaterials into wind turbine blades and solar panels.
